Dental Treatment Under General Anesthesia

Dental treatment under general anesthesia(GA) can be done for non co-operative and apprehensive patients. We have done a number of cases under GA. Patients are relieved of possible discomfort associated with long and complex procedures.

The hospital general anaesthesia service was a service that could only be accessed by children, by adults with special needs or by adults requiring complex oral surgery. Now dental treatment under GA ia available to severely phobic adults that are otherwise healthy, but may not have attended check-ups or have had dental issues tended to for many years. Typical treatment that can be carried out under general anaesthesia includes essential routine dental care i.e. fillings and extractions, dental implant placement and its associated surgery or oral surgery procedures such as the removal of wisdom teeth and difficult extractions.

General anesthesia differentiates itself from local anesthesia in that it numbs the body and puts the mind to sleep. In this unconscious state, there is also an absence of fear and anxiety; it's for this last reason, in fact, that general anesthesia is sometimes used not only for complex dental treatment, but is also occasionally recommended for children and adults who experience acute dental anxiety.
